Award Created To Honor Women In Baseball
Inaugural Alexis Busch Award to be Given to Jenny Fulle, Girls Baseball Pioneer
San Rafael, CA- The San Rafael Pacifics Professional Baseball Club and Perry’s on Magnolia restaurant have announced their partnership for an annual award to recognize outstanding women who have honored the spirit of baseball.
The “Alexis Busch Award” is named for the former Marin County woman baseball player who, as a player and Giants bat girl, exemplified the spirit of all women and girls wanting to play baseball or have a career in baseball.
“Alexis Busch was as passionate and dedicated to the game of baseball as anyone I ever known,” said Pacifics President and General Manager Mike Shapiro. “We want to honor her memory and her commitment to women in baseball by giving this award each year to the woman who best carries on that love for the game.”
The inaugural “Alexis Busch Award” will be awarded before the Pacifics game at Albert Park on Saturday August 5, 2017 at 5:00pm to former Mill Valley girls’ baseball pioneer, Jenny Fulle, who in 1972 successfully challenged Little League’s discriminatory policy not to allow girls to play in the same league as boys.
“Jenny was the absolute best person to receive the first Alexis Busch Award,” added Shapiro. “Alexis’ family was completely behind this choice and they feel Jenny’s trailblazing efforts made it possible for Alexis, and girls all over the world, to play baseball equal to boys.”
Jenny was the first girl to play in Little League, and because of her courage Little League was forced to open its doors to girls.
Jenny will be honored with the award in a pre-game ceremony and will receive a one-day contract to play for the Pacifics.
