Pacifics Initiate “Gloves for Kids” Campaign
Pacifics to Collect Baseball Gloves Through Holiday Season for Underprivileged Youth in Marin
San Rafael, CA —
The San Rafael Pacifics Community Fund announced today the expansion of their free baseball clinics program by kicking off the “Gloves for Kids” campaign. For the past two years, the Pacifics have offered free clinics to underprivileged youth in Marin County, but in 2016 the club aims to give every participant in the clinics a free baseball glove as well.
“With the holiday season approaching we thought it a good time to start this program to accentuate the need for underprivileged kids to get a free baseball glove when they participate in one of our free clinics,” said Pacifics Vice President of Operations and Chairman of the Pacifics Community Fund Bill Spiller. “We’re hoping that with the support of our community we can give a free baseball glove to over a hundred kids this summer.”
Through the Pacifics Community Fund, the Pacifics have seen their free clinics programs thrive since they began in 2014. Last summer alone, the Pacifics hosted three clinics and gave over one hundred children a free baseball camp experience that would be otherwise unaffordable to them.
“Out of all of the accomplishments the Pacifics have achieved in our first four years, the success of the free baseball clinics program that we put on every summer is what I am most proud of,” said Pacifics President and General Manager Mike Shapiro. “One of our principal goals in 2016 is to make this program more robust than ever by giving a free baseball glove to every participant who needs one.”
The Pacifics will be collecting gloves and donations to the Pacifics Community Fund through the holiday season at their Front Office, located at 1201 2nd Street in downtown San Rafael. Anyone who donates a glove to the drive, or an equivalent cash value donation to the Pacifics Community Fund, will receive a voucher for two free tickets to the game of their choice in 2016.
